      1. Do you splay the street dog. I am feeding a street female puppy for 1 month now. She is doing fine. She is 3 to 4 months old. I live in bidadi. I fear she may give birth to multiple puppies once she matures. I am ready to drive her to kengeri , splay her and take care until she recovers and leave her back in her home territory. Is it possible to do this and like to know the expenses involved so that other readers can understand and help by taking responsibility. My fear is I already had a dog. Vet bill came to 5 to 10k for vaccination and neutering. It’s difficult being a student to afford that kind of money. Hope you understand

        1. Raghu, it is because of people like you, who buy dogs for vanity, there is a street dog issue in bangalore with many owners abandoning their dogs. please don’t buy a dog if you can’t take care of it.

We recently took in a stray cat though we already had a cat… And it is really hard for us to accommodate anymore. But it hurts to feel helpless while hearing it cry like that especially when it rains which is more often nowadays. I would like to know if you can help. Please.

    1. Shradha. I really appreciate your spirit. Unfortunately there are no cat shelters in Bangalore. We have around 80 dogs and you know well they will never allow cats. However my immediate suggestion is get all the female cats (out of the nine) nutered to prevent further proliferation. If you have an open terrace, let them roam about. Make a small kennel type shelter there. Good luck.

    1. Ashwin. I am surprised that anyone will abandon a pet of 8 years because of some difficulties. Old age happens even to humans. Will anybody send their parent to a shelter because he/she is old and difficult to manage? I am sorry to say that we at Krupa can never accept such attitudes. Besides, who will adopt an old and disabled dog whe the owner himself wants to get rid of him? I request you to take care of this unfortunate creature till the end whatever be the difficulty.

  5. Ashwin :
Hi Govind, There seems to be come miscommunication. I would like to rephrase my situation. We love our pet a lot and treat her like our own daughter. The reason for writing to you was that my pet is finding it very difficult to climb the stairs during her walks. The result of which she does not walk far and hence she dirties our neighbours house. This has resulted in a lot of problems with our neighbours in my street. I stay in a rented house and due to certain compulsions unable to move out. We have not taken this decision in the last 1 week or so. We had this challenge since 3 years back and after lot of contemplation, we decided. When you love your pet, it hurts when people around abuse her. The fact that we dont like anyone calling her a dog itself infuriates us. she has to be addressed by her name. That is our affection on her. If you have doubts, you are welcome to come and see her at our place to check how well we take care of her.
Use of such words “Abandon” is very high and unwarranted. I am sure that you are aware of many such shelters in bangalore and “abandoning” her would have been just a day’s job. But that was not our intention. We wanted a place which will take care of her needs with continuous support from me. Also request you to clarify any misconceptions you may have of my intention before talking about my attitude.
Hope you understand what I have written.
    Thanks
The response below was by my wife who was upset by your response.

      1. Hi Balvinder here. We have had a street dog as pet for over a year now. The dog is fine when it’s with us calm and silent but when any of the relatives, friends or any unknown face comes to his sight he starts barking so much that it has becoming difficult. While controlling the dog when it’s barking at others it comes to bike us as well and we have also become a lil worried now. Can you help us with this? We would want to give away the dog to a shelter so that it gets treated properly

    1. Rajkumar. You say you have this problem from day one. Why did you keep the dog for 8 long years. Now that the dog is attached to you, there is no way it can be sent anywhere. It amounts to abandoning a relative who had been with you for 60 years ( 8 yrs of dog’s life). Please do not attempt that. We have seen dogs die of grief once they are abandoned. Face the situation for some more years till the poor animal breathes its last peacefully instead of dieing in trauma. Plese understand.

I had a German Shepard when i was 18 years old, it was a 25 days old puppy. 5 years passed and he grew like a handsome hunk. we loved him lot and we received the same from him, As days passed, i got busy with studies and my parents found it difficult to manage him , take him to loo and all that. Finally there was a great fight in our house whether to keep him or not. then he was handed over to a dog trainer and now its been 12 years , having no idea where is he, i miss him to the core, he comes in my dreams, wish he was with me.. i silently cry for him. So please dont abandon ur pets

    1. Prathibha. I fully understand your feelings. We have been telling people that keeping a pet is not a small matter. It involves a big responsibility. If you cannot accept any such responsibility that lasts over the lifetime of the pet, please do not think of owning a pet. Abandoning a pet after years of grooming is height of cruelty. We at Krupa have several such abandoned pets which yearn for love and compassion. Please visit Krupa often and be with the inmates to bring them joy.

The leash is so short that the dog cannot even rest his head on the floor or even sit in different positions. I am not sure if he gets water also. There is minimal interaction with the family and hardly any exercise. He is also beaten up if he barks for attention. Many neighbours have observed this but nobody seems to take the initiative to register a complaint.
Can the family be warned or the dog rehabilitated? Please help.

I only request kind souls to visit them often and give them joy. You may visit us on Sundays. Pl call us for directions.

I’ve been noticing that a hairy dog ( i’m not sure about its breed ) has been abandoned by its owners near Reddy Farm road and its been seen wandering around that place. I stay nearby Reddy farm house road. I want u people to take care of that dog provide it shelter.
Its a cream-brownish coloured long haired small sized dog with a dog collar maybe of blue colour. Kind of the dog shown in mortine advertisement. There is a big banyan kind of tree and its been seen around that place. it was owned by people staying in that road. I don’t know the reason behind its abondoning. But i couldn’t see it in that state. please do help that poor dog.
You have to come to B.E.M.L. complex and there you have to take pappaya kalyana matapa road from the junction and go straight in tat kalyana mantapa road and you will get a dead end from there u hav to take right and you should take a road going downwards and at the end of the road u can see that tree wich i have mentioned above. You can find that dog over that area. and the name of the place in Basaveshwara Badavane.
I hope you will do the needful.

  32. Hi Team
I am writing to this in utmost pain and helplessness!! This Year around end of Feb, I found 3 kittens in the street in front of my house being attacked by street dogs. My wife and I rescued them. However one of the kittens passed away coz of injury from the attack. One male (simbu) and female (karumbi) came into our life. From then we were looking for a shelter for these kittens. Both of them came close to us that we cudnt part with them anymore and we left the idea of sending them off anywhere. However, now situation changed in my life. My wife is pregnant and she is in her 8th mnth.. she didn’t go home because of these cats.To our surprise, Karumbi gave birth to 4 kittens. my wife attended her delivery. 3 female and 1 male. All healthy kittens. This was a real shock to us coz we didn’t find any signs of pregnancy in her. Meanwhile Simbu ran away somewhere and never returned. My family life is really tossed up and down because of these new kittens now. Ive been searching for a home for these kittens. no organisation is ready to keep them or help. I am going on a business requirement to singapore next monday. My wife as not able to leave them alone has asked her parents in town to come and stay with her. She is not able to take care of all of them in her current situation. I dont want to abandon these kittens like the one who did the same to their mother. Twice street dogs attacked them, luckily I cud save them. Now to our shock I find Karumbi pregnant again.Vet Doc confirmed it !!! I have no clue what to do now!!! Even before I cud do some birth control to Karumbi ..she is pregnant again. I am going aborad for a month. My wife is stuck between family and these kittens. I need some help here so that i can get them home or some directions to some organisation who will take care of them. I dont wanna leave all of them. But 5 cats with one carrying are out of my hand. Im afraid this experience in my life is killing the last bit of humanity or compassion to animals.
Please help .. anyone ..please !!!

    1. No organisation in Bangalore will accept cats. You made a mistake of keeping unsterilized cats. These are street cats and are not be kept confined. If you have a terrace, leave them there but feed them. While male cats will move away once they grow up, female ones will stay. Please see that females if any are sterilized immediately. Cats will srvive on terraces if fed regularly.

  36. Sir/Mam,

Myself Adesh Kowshik as I was going through internet I came across your website. We have a mudhol hound and cocker spaniel mix breed dog who turns 2 years on coming January. We had him since he was 21 days.He is vaccinated for anti-rabies and skin diseases. My dog(Tinku) was very aggressive towards other male dogs at the beginning and this aggression worsened and he started to show towards humans. He does not tolerate any one other than my father, mother, sister and me.
He has bitten my neighbor’s son when he was 8 months. My sisters friend when he was 14 months old. Worst was yet to come Yesterday(19-12-2014) when my father was taking car outside he ran out of the house and bit my neighbor lady very badly. We had to take her to hospital and it required 5 stitches to close the wound and repair the muscle damage. .
This incident has left our family in embarrassment and wrath of our neighbors. All my neighbors are asking to give away the dog and they also threatened that there will be consequences if we don’t.As I am working in Bangalore and my parents in Mysore I am not able to take care of dog. My parents have decided to send the dog someplace else which we have not decided yet.
So,my questions are 1) I needed to know whether your institution has a provision of Rehabilitation and taking care of the dog.We are ready to bear the monthly experiences which comes with it. 2) If I neutralize will it aggression decrease 3) Due to my bad luck if your institution does not have rehabilitation facility can you suggest me one as we want to send it there for some months for rehabilitation. 4) I saw you indulge in ANIMAL LAW can you please suggest me any steps I have to take in case this biting incidents gets out of hand .We are also afraid that after rehabilitation also my neighbors may pose problems.

    Waiting for your kind response

    Thanking you,

    ADESH KOWSHIK

My name is Hardik. Last night I had a situation when an abandoned puppy was groaning just beside my home. I felt really bad, so I went near it to see what was wrong. I guess he was hungry, so I fed him some milk. Yet, he didn’t stopped crying. I tried all I could to palliate him, but he wouldn’t stop. After a while he got into my home. Well! I would love to adopt him but I already have two dogs, who got highly ferocious at seeing him. I hated that I could do nothing more than picking him up and dropping him out over and over again. I really feel bad about it. Is there anything that I can do to help that poor creature?

    Your help will be solicited

    Like

    1. Hardik. I appreciate your compassion and concern towards the poor puppy. We all have basic responsibility towards street animals which depend on us. Please feed he puppy regularly till it grows up and becomes independent. Street dogs are better off on streets provided we feed them. You need not adopt the puppy but allow him to enter your compound while feeding. Your dogs will eventually become friendly with the puppy. If you have some friends who can adopt him it will be a nice option. Never send him to any shelter as you will kill his freedom.

    1. Do you have anyone with a home in Bangalore who can take care of this puppy? Generally street dogs are not adopted as pets. This is unfortunate. Yet you can find a person who can keep this puppy in his premises till it grows up. Later the dog can be released in the same area and fed periodically. Street dogs are better off on streets than in a shelter which gives them less freedom. Please take a little more effort and find someone who could take care of the puppy.

    1. Sorry Anu. Street cats cannot be confined in any place. There is no organisation in Bangalore which provides shelter to cats. Cats love to be free. If you want to shelter the litter till they grow up, keep them in a card board box and place them on your terrace. Please feed the mother cat till the kitten become independent.

    1. Prerana, we are sorry we are not equipped to visit the spots where you find sick dogs. We request you to make some arrangements like an auto to bring the dog to our facility in Kengeri Satellite town. Please take some efforts as you say the dog is not aggressive and save the dog. You may discuss with your friends and take immediate action.

    1. Shruthi,

I am happy to see one more animal lover in this city where there are quite a few. I am also thankful to you for being kind to street dogs. Please make it a duty to feed them regularly with whatever you can afford. Regarding adoption, ensure that your parents approve of this 100%. You may visit our facility at Kengeri Satellite Town along with your parents on any Sunday evening and be with our pets here and discuss the mater.

  46. We have a pet kitten 1.5 months old, who is born with the back limbs deformed and slightly paralysed hip onwards, which is a hindrance in it regular movements, and hence, the animal would need to be looked after regularly and cannot be as independent as a normal cat.

I am writing to you to seek for a shelter for this kitten, in Kolkata or nearby areas (This kitten is currently in Jamshedpur)

Please do let us know if something feasible can be worked out / please help guide us to institutes which can help us.

    1. Aditi,

I can understand your problem. But still the condition of the kitten is no reason to put him in a shelter. In any shelter the kitten will end up in a cage for life. Do you want this unfortunate creature imprisoned for life? I request you to keep the kitten with you as comfortably as possible even with his impairment. In most cases the paralytic condition can be cured. You may put him on Neuribion syrup twice a day. You may ask for a mild syrup meant for babies. His condition will sure to improve. Please banish any idea of sending the baby cat to a shelter. Report me his condition after a month.

  47. Hi Rajan,

The issue is we often go out for weeks together and there are times when there is no one at home to take care of the pets. The rest of the cats are trained to be self dependent, but in the case of this kitten, the same is not possible. My fear is, since, there will be nobody to feed and take care of the poor fellow when we are not there, how will he survive.

Please share your email id, so that I can share a video of the kitten, to better represent the condition. We would be thankful for anything which will help the kitten survive and lead a normal life.

What had happened was,the mother cat accidentally sat on him at the time of birth, and he was hardly breathing. We somehow, saved his life by blowing air into his mouth and feeding him through a dropper, but the back limbs, got distorted and he became semi-paralytic hip downwards.

The fact is we cannot avoid traveling, and,we are really scared that any point of improper care should not cause harm to him.

Please let me know from the above and once you have seen his video if Neuribion would be suitable for him.

    Regards
    Aditi

    1. Sorry Aditi. Had you been in Bangalore our organisation would have accepted your pet. I am not aware of any organisation similar to this in Calcutta. I can only suggest that you may request your close friends to take care of the pet during your travel times. Please do not abandon the pet.

  48. Hi Rajan,

We ofcourse do not wish to abandon him. All we want is a place where he can be taken care of properly and untill then, we will surely keep good care.

Alternatively, if there is a way to treat him and cure him, then it would be great too. Please share your email id so that I can share videos and pics to illustrate his conditions. Once you have seen the same, please suggest if we can cure him.

    1. There are two options. One Neurobion syrup in recommended doses. This is only Vitamin b12. You may consult a vet for dose. Alternatively consult a homoeopath. Homeo medicines are used by us and they work beautifully. Discuss with a good homeo practitioner telling him the symptoms.

    1. Nihan. I understand your problem. Unfortunately there is no organisation which will adopt cats. Cats are free animals and they live on the terraces of houses and they do not expect to be fed regularly. Since we have too many dogs, cats cannot stay here. I suggest that you find from your friends with own houses who can provide shelter to the kitten till they grow up to become independent. They can be left on the terrace and fed till they grow up in a few months. Cats love wild and independent life unlike dogs.

  58. Hi, need help with a street pup/ dog( just 10 months old) in my road. It has been sick for the past few days as it had stopped eating and was so weak that it couldn’t move.
Last Sunday, a veterinary doctor came and checked it. He said it might have a stomach infection and gave an injection and few medicines. We and a neighbour of ours have been feeding it manually every day and giving the medicines but it still is not able to get up & move. The area we live in doesn’t have any other veterinary doc except the government veterinary doc and they do not take much interest in it.
Since both us and the neighbours are working there is nobody to tend to it the whole day. We believe it needs better care than what we are giving it.

Can you please suggest what to do? Also want to know if you are willing to take this pup into your shelter and care it.

    Awaiting your response.

    Regards,
    Shobika

    1. Hi Nayan. While appreciating your interest in animals we have to explain Krupa’s adoption norms. We normally do not give our dogs to students who stay temporarily in Bangalore. You will obviously know the reason. Our policy is to arrange loving homes for our dogs which are permanent. Another restriction is that we normally discourage apartment dwellers from taking dogs. However you are welcome to visit Krupa and spend time with our friends.

A big hats off to you. I simply love animals. And dogs for that matter I adore them. I stay in an apartment in whitefield and owning a dog or any pet for that matter is difficult as I will be depriving the animal of its freedom to roam in open space. Moreover my family doesnt approve of keeping dog or any other pet.
I am from M’lore and I accidentally came across a baby squirrel hardly 15-20 days old which was about to be snatched by a cat and we adopted it. This was in 2010 and it was with us for 2 yrs 🙂 These are very small things like caring and giving some time and love without expecting anything in return. I would love to spend my time with animals at your place 24*7 but that is practically not possible. A Big thank u and good luck 🙂 wil visit soon

    1. Hello Vasudha

Thanks for your concern for the suffering animals. Our objective at KRUPA is to bring solace and happiness to the unfortunate destitute animals. I do not know if you have already visited us but you can see them in comfort at our place. Hunger and fear haunt these creatures on our streets. But what we do is is a minuscule effort to some animals while thousands are still on the streets. This calls for community effort which people like you can do by feeding the distressed animals and showing them love.

About the dog with skin disease. If the dog is otherwise healthy you need not bother to bring him her for treatment.
Administer NEOMEC 10mg tablet one every day for 15 days. The tab is available with most med shops and vets. Either conceal the tablet in a piece of bun or powder it and mix it with milk and give it as a feed. Te dog will recover in a month completely.

Hope to meet you at KRUPA

    1. Hi Anuska

Remember this. A slim dog is usually a healthy one. Please do not listen to others and overfeed the dog to make it fat. Labradors tend to develop kidney and heart failure if they are allowed to fatten. Feed bland food (rice and milk, rice and curd). Restrict on non-veg foods. Never give him chocolates and onions. Chocolate kills dogs. Slim and active dogs live longer. Also stop giving commercial dog foods. Consult your vet for suggestions on vitamins. But even this do not overdo.

However some of our neighbours throw stones at it and come with sticks to hit them, in the mele they get scared n chase them, so far not harmed anyone but these neighbours (not all, some others like them n feed them too) have been creating a hungama over them being fed by us n have now told us that they will keep feed them something n make sure they are not alive. These harmless characters have no where to go, is there a shelter where I can send them?? I really want them to be hale n hearty n not perish in the hands of these sinful people around. Kindly help.

  92. Hello, I came across a kitten 3 weeks back which was bitten by 2 stray dogs. People nearby were nurturing the poor kitten who might be around a month old. I immediately took the kitten with some people help there. He was treated with first aid by doctor Ansar and Nandini (from, my pet’s choice in HSR Layout). They are our usual doctors for my 6 dogs at home. They asked me to get a x-ray for the spine and abdomen region which I did. The spine seems to be normal but the damage is on certain nerves near the abdomen. They had provided him 2 times steroids and anti-septic. According to them, the kitten has improved to a good extent but I am not suppose to expect more than the current situation he is in. He uses his front legs only. Hence I thought that it would be better to put him on a wheelchair and he can lead his own life. But again, He requires treatment for betterment, everyday I give him supplements for nerves improvement. Now since drags himself, the hind legs are bleeding and needs bath every time. I have put him in a isolated area where he feels very much uncomfortable with. I cannot put him anywhere else in our houses, because my dogs are against him !

I am looking for help from you guys to treat him and I will be providing funds for your organization. Can you help me here ?

    Thanks and regards,

Sir my problem is that I would like to send that dog to a shelter where she can live n her wound is treated as the other dogs of d street always attack her when she is let out of my house compound. When I was searching i came across ur dog care shelter n I request you to keep the dog at your shelter. Please reply for this. Thank you.

  94. Hello,
First of all I must say that you all are doing a wonderful job by giving your love and affection to the unfortunate. I came across a dog who was abandoned by his family. He was tied to a pole at the bus stand near my house. We bought him and next day took him to pet clinic and found that he was suffering from scabies. So we gave him vaccination , regular baths and medicines which the doctor prescribed. its been 3 weeks now and he is recovering fast. Now the issue is we will be shifting to other city in next 40 odd days and dont know what to do with the dog now. We cant leave him just like that. Can you please provide her shelter ? We are ready to pay for rest of her treatment (if any).
Your quick reply will be highly appreciated .
    Thanks!!

    1. why do people like you even bother buying a dog? oh yes, vanity reasons. you should buy a dog only if it fits your lifestyle and you are willing to take care of it forever. once you buy a dog, it is your family. would you leave your wrinkled mother behind for adoption if you are moving from the country? hopeless.

  102. Hey!
Do you neuter stray cats for free? There are a few cats in the neighborhood who get pregnant very frequently and the kittens roam around, many ending up dead by dog attacks or other reasons. I want to get them neutered but cannot afford to, hence I’m looking at NGOs. Please let me know 🙂

  103. Hi. I have 8 stray puppies outside my house. I am looking for a shelter to get them adopted since they might not survive long. Can you advise if you will take them or any other shelter that you know of. I am happy to bear any associated costs.

    1. Sorry. We will not be able to take kitten as this is a shelter cum hospital treating over 200 dogs. We avoid cats for obvious reasons. Thanks.

  105. Hi there. I’m a student at IISc Bangalore and I had rescued a puppy about 6 months ago in my own campus as he had been separated from his litter and was being attacked by other dogs in the territory. We’ve tried getting him adopted for all this while but numerous people have just approached and then ghosted us. He’s been living with me in my hostel since the day I rescued him. We nursed him back to good health and vaccinated him as well, with the help of good people around us. But now I’ve graduated from my college and I’m here in Bangalore only for a few days more and I’ve still not found a forever home for him. I’m extremely worried about what to do about him once I leave. Is there any chance he can stay at your shelter till he gets adopted?
