CASPER, THE FRIENDLY LITTLE DOG

Sent by Poornima Desai

It was about a year ago that a beautiful little puppy was brought to
the Krupa shelter by a kindly girl. At first glance, the puppy seemed
very normal but a closer look revealed that it was paralyzed waist
downwards. With tears streaming down her eyes, the kindly girl
described how she had found Casper (as she had named him) in a drain
stuffed in a gunny sack. She had taken him home, cleaned him and taken
him to the vet but could not keep him for long as she travelled
frequently. Thus did Cuppa (as Casper is fondly called) join the Krupa
family.
It did not take long for Cuppa to win the hearts of one and all with
his “never say die” spirit and his total disregard towards his
handicap(?). Though he cannot walk and can only drag himself around,
he is forever engaged in one prank or the other including teasing the
bigger dogs and gobbling up a forbidden morsel of food. No visitor to
the shelter can leave without meeting Cuppa as he animatedly beckons
them to come and play with him.
Cuppa’s immense courage and his will to go on inspite of his crippling
condition, should surely serve to boost up the confidence level of one
and all.
Please do visit Cuppa at Krupa.

Goldie gone into memory

Article by Mitul Mukherjee

Goldie or ‘Mamaco’ as we fondly used to call her crossed over the bridge on 16th Feb, we were blessed to have a great companion with us for the last seven months. When she came home it was a new experience and slowly we got to know each other .With her calm disposition and no complains attitude she was our golden girl who would patiently wait for her food, super excited and brimming with energy for her daily morning walks, she always considered herself one of ‘us’. Her unique ways reminded me of sophisticated lady who knew her manners .She was our stress buster, our stuff toy, something we would look forward to play and cuddle with.

Some of her favourite things were chicken, cake, biscuits, ripe papaya and treats of all size, shape and flavours ,unending belly and underarm rubs to the extent of waking us up in the middle of the night to have her belly rubs, playing fetch with her bone and ball ,running behind us or lying on her back with her legs in the air playfully biting us if we dare to hold her legs but the one thing which topped her list was auto rides , which she could not have enough of ;).

With her glowing golden coat she used to attract a lot of admirers on her walks who would invariably shower her with affection and she would reciprocate for the same. A failing kidney and a bad arthritis plagued her yet she was always calm and happy .She made a difference to our lives and not the other way around as most of you would like to believe. We shared our home with her which was nothing out of the way we did but she touched our lives in ways no human can. The corner in the room is empty, her place on the bed is empty, yet our memories are filled with the fun times that we had with her which time and space can never erase.

We miss her smell, we miss the feeling of her fur in between our fingers, we miss everything that was Goldie but in our hearts and mind she will always be with us!
